Vintage 1980s Floral Silk Scarf - Pierre Balmain

A beautifully expressive vintage Pierre Balmain Paris silk scarf, dating to approximately the 1980s and made in France from 100% silk.

Measuring approximately 79 × 79 cm, the square scarf is printed with an exuberant painterly floral composition in shades of turquoise, aqua, emerald green, cobalt blue, violet, yellow and ivory. A loosely arranged bouquet occupies the centre of the design, surrounded by sweeping, almost brushstroke-like areas of colour that give the scarf the character of a painted canvas.

The broad pale-aqua border adds lightness to the composition, while the Pierre Balmain Paris signature is incorporated into one corner of the print. The design feels particularly evocative of the decorative, colour-rich accessories produced by French fashion houses during the 1980s.

Generously proportioned without being oversized, it can be worn traditionally around the neck, folded diagonally over the shoulders, styled as a headscarf or tied to a handbag. Its vivid blue-green palette also makes it particularly effective framed or displayed as textile art.
