Vintage 1980s Neo-Classical Wool Shawl - Timney Fowler

A distinctive vintage Timney Fowler London wool shawl, featuring the British design house's signature neo-classical engraving style in black and ivory.

The oversized square design is printed with an elaborate composition of a scene with Bacchus/Dionysus with Ariadne and Cupid/Eros, surrounded by classical female figures, architectural borders and finely rendered engraved details, creating the dramatic monochrome aesthetic for which Timney Fowler became known during the 1980s. Established in London by designers Sue Timney and Grahame Fowler, the studio built an international reputation for its striking reworking of Greco-Roman, historical and architectural imagery.
