This vintage Hermès “Dies et Hore” 90 cm silk scarf by F. Faconnet is a mesmerising homage to antique astronomical clocks. Its Latin title – “Days and Hours” – appears around a series of concentric rings that chart the passage of time: numerals, calendar scales and celestial symbols revolve around a radiant golden sun at the centre.

Rendered in tones of soft ivory, greys and blush pink with gold accents, the design is punctuated by sculptural zodiac figures placed around the circle – Leo, Pisces, Gemini and more – while the corners are framed with baroque scrolls in gold and charcoal. It’s a beautiful meeting of science, astrology and classical ornament, very much in keeping with Faconnet’s love of historic engravings and Hermès’ tradition of turning archive imagery into wearable art.

Crafted from 100% silk twill with hand-rolled edges, this carré drapes elegantly and looks striking worn as a neck scarf, headscarf or framed.

Fair to good vintage condition. There is a small hole in one of the grey rings and a few light marks on the pale ground, visible on close inspection (see photos) and reflected in the price. When folded and knotted, these remain discreet.
