A distinctive vintage oval brooch centred with an irregular mosaic of crushed green and cream-coloured hardstone chips. The fragmented stones create a textured, almost geological surface, with shades ranging from pale celadon and moss green to creamy quartz tones.

The raised oval setting is framed by twisted-rope edging and an ornate antiqued gold-tone border decorated with scrolling wirework, leaves and small bead-like accents. Its substantial depth and richly textured construction give it a strong mid-century Byzantine or Etruscan-revival appearance.

The reverse has a gold-tone metal back with a traditional hinged pin and rollover-style safety clasp. No maker’s mark is visible in the photographs. Pieces of closely comparable construction are commonly described as vintage green stone-chip or crushed-hardstone brooches and are generally dated to the 1960s or 1970s.

Vintage condition with visible age-related wear. The faux pearls retain an attractive lustre but show some discolouration, surface marks and wear around a number of the drilled or mounted ends. The reverse metal plate has extensive tarnishing, oxidation and surface loss consistent with age.

The pin and clasp are complete.
