A rare Tom Ford for Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche silk satin skirt, dating to the designer’s final Autumn/Winter 2004–05 collection for the house.

Cut in a sleek knee-length pencil silhouette, the skirt combines deep burgundy tailoring fabric with Plum silk satin panels, creating the saturated colour contrast that defined Ford’s final YSL collection. The front is divided by a strong central burgundy panel, while the reverse uses an angular V-shaped yoke and vertical central band to frame the lustrous satin body.

The waist is structured with adjustable snap-fastened tabs at the back, allowing a small degree of fit adjustment, and the skirt closes with a centre-back zip. Branded metal hardware, including Yves Saint Laurent-engraved press studs and YSL zip pull, reinforces the house detailing.

The fabric composition label confirms 100% silk, and the skirt is Made in France.

Tom Ford’s Autumn/Winter 2004 collection for Yves Saint Laurent was his final collection for the house and revisited Saint Laurent’s 1977 Chinese collection through intense colour contrasts, satin, silk and highly controlled sensual tailoring. Vogue specifically noted pairings such as crimson silk with scarlet satin and powder pink with grape, while contemporary coverage described a burgundy silk jacket over a crimson lingerie-satin pencil skirt.

This skirt does not appear to correspond to a documented runway look, and is therefore best understood as a collection-era retail piece, likely produced for boutique or wholesale distribution rather than runway presentation.

A highly collectible example of early-2000s Tom Ford-era YSL, combining the designer’s signature sensuality with Saint Laurent’s sophisticated use of colour.
