A distinctive vintage Judith Leiber pendant necklace, dating to approximately the 1980s, with a richly sculptural gold-plated pendant suspended from a long articulated chain.

The pendant is formed as an abstracted figural composition, with two stylised heads above a broad, engraved trapezoidal body and a row of four articulated mask-like or head-shaped pendants suspended beneath. The textured surface, symmetry and dangling elements give the piece an almost talismanic quality.

Its imagery is strongly evocative of West African metalwork and amuletic jewellery traditions, particularly Senufo yawiige ornaments associated with Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso, although this should be understood as a stylistic comparison rather than a documented attribution of inspiration. The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds several Senufo and Senufo/Tussian yawiige ornaments in brass and copper alloy, including figural examples associated with divination and protection.

The rather refined geometric chain gives the piece a distinctly Western designer-jewellery character and creates an interesting contrast with the more archaic, sculptural pendant.

Very good vintage condition overall. The gold-plated finish remains bright and attractive, with light surface wear and minor tonal variation consistent with age and previous use. The articulated lower elements move freely, the chain appears complete, and the Judith Leiber signature remains legible.
