An elegant antique metal mesh evening purse, dating to the early 20th century and most likely the 1910s–1920s.

The bag is constructed from finely interlinked chainmail-style mesh suspended from a rigid metal frame with a classic kiss-lock clasp. A delicate chain rises to a large circular finger ring handle, allowing the purse to be carried from the hand in the characteristic style of Edwardian and 1920s evening accessories.

Along the lower edge, a row of small suspended metal drops adds movement and decorative detail. The soft drape of the mesh contrasts beautifully with the structured frame, giving the purse the refined, tactile quality associated with early 20th-century evening dress.

Small silver mesh purses of this type were popular during the Edwardian era and throughout the 1920s, particularly for theatre, dinner and evening wear. Similar surviving examples were made in sterling silver as well as German silver, a nickel-based alloy developed to imitate the appearance of silver.

Good antique condition with age-related patina, tarnishing and surface wear to the metal throughout. The mesh shows natural irregularity consistent with age and use. Decorative drops remain present along the lower edge, although some variation in spacing is visible. The frame and chain show expected wear. Please refer closely to all photographs for condition
