A distinctive pair of vintage 925 sterling silver drop earrings combining sculptural oxidised silver with elongated orange shell pendants.

Each earring begins with an abstract eye-shaped silver stud, decorated with deeply incised curved lines around a raised central circle. A small articulated silver spacer connects the stud to a long tapered shell drop, mounted beneath a simple geometric silver cap.

The shell displays natural tonal variation from creamy ivory through warm amber and burnt orange, together with visible organic striations and inclusions. Its appearance is consistent with spiny oyster shell, a material widely used in Mexican and Southwestern silver jewellery, although the shell has not been laboratory tested.

The reverse is clearly stamped 925, confirming sterling silver.

The earrings have a strong modernist and artisan character, balancing primitive geometry with natural material. Their silverwork and shell combination suggest possible Mexican or Southwestern origin, although no country-of-origin mark is visible in the supplied photographs.

A striking choice for collectors of vintage sterling silver jewellery, Mexican-style earrings, spiny oyster shell, modernist jewellery and artisan statement pieces.

Good vintage condition with light surface wear, patina and tarnishing to the sterling silver consistent with age. The shell drops show natural colour variation, inclusions and slight surface irregularity inherent to organic material. The articulated sections remain mobile and both post fittings are present. 

 

Please note that one butterfly back is not original to the earrings and has been replaced with a gold-plated sterling silver fastening. Please refer closely to all photographs for condition

Avoid soaking or abrasive cleaning, as moisture could affect the internal fixings or aged metal finish as well as gemstones
